Likely causes

  • Missing authentication.
  • Client not in trusted network.
  • Wrong relay host.

Recommended response

  1. Authenticate properly.
  2. Correct relay restrictions and client network settings.
Operational rule: Preserve the complete SMTP response, remote hostname, sending IP, envelope sender and timestamp. Never diagnose from the three-digit code alone.
