What it means
The receiver temporarily rejected the sending host for policy reasons or greylisting.
Likely causes
- Greylisting.
- PTR, HELO or authentication issue.
- Reputation-based temporary rejection.
Recommended response
- Verify PTR and EHLO alignment.
- Confirm SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
- Retry with normal backoff.
- Investigate reputation if repeated.
Operational rule: Preserve the complete SMTP response, remote hostname, sending IP, envelope sender and timestamp. Never diagnose from the three-digit code alone.
